About Communities of Practice

A Community of Practice (CoP) refers to a group of stakeholders who come together around a shared interest or passion related to teaching, learning, and school improvement. Through ongoing interaction, they exchange ideas, solve problems, build knowledge, and develop practices that improve their collective work. The CalECSE Regional Communities of Practice are groups of educators within specific regions of California, who meet regularly to share problems of practice and exemplary work in order to facilitate improved practice in the area of early childhood special education.

Organization of Communities of Practice

Our Communities of Practice bring early childhood special education professionals together within each of the eleven regions of California to support collaboration among local practitioners. Due to the large geographic areas, most of our Communities of Practice are held virtually. However, there are some opportunities for in person gatherings. To support the unique needs of rural districts and programs, a Rural Community of Practice is being offered as a statewide opportunity.

Communities of Practice Participants

CalECSE’s Community of Practice participants are limited to school district, SELPA and County Office of Education staff who are currently working in the field. Leaders, administrators and school site practitioners are welcome to join us in our collaborative spaces.

“Breakout rooms were great, I think presentations were cool to hear about as well. Continuing this would be my recommendation”
